Well the family and I are out doing some research on the Big Island of Hawaii. Thought we'd pass along some information for disc players out there planning on a vacation or extended stay here. The first thing is WOW! I haven't been here since I was 12 so things have changed. What a paradise for disc play. We'll never get to explore even a small portion of the beaches and jam areas here, but I'll pass along what we have found.

The first great beach we hit was Hapuna Beach. Just about 27 miles North from the airport on Hwy 19. One of the larger expanses of white sand on this Island, the Beach is flat and at least for the day we were there a great on-shore breeze of about 10mph. Tons of flat hard sand for great playing.

Later in the day we were visiting the Hilton Waikola and discovered an excellent grass point outside the resort. The site is reasonably large and open to the ocean from three sides. Just did a little airbrushing here, but I'll come back. Just a bit South of the Hapuna Beach

We hit Mauna Lani Beach the next day. A small black sand beach. Not the best for a jam, but the sand was nice enough and large enough for a great game of catch. A beautiful beach. This is just one exit further North from the Hilton Waikola.

Today we spent the day at Mona Kea Beach. Similar to Hapuna Beach, but a bit more beautiful, extremely flat and hardly any people. The resort hotel there is closed for renovations right now and that contributed to the vacancy. Probably one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever been to and jammed at. A fantastic on-shore breeze that picked up quite a bit in the afternoon to the point that it was unplayable, but the morning here was fantastic. This beach is a couple of exits North on 19 from Hapuna Beach.
